Can you Suggest some good coming-of-age fantasy novels?
Ok, I am thoroughly bored now, with absolutely nothing to read!!
I accept I am an Escapist because I basically like the traditional Fantasy story - where a boy gets to his destiny or something like that.
Although I do enjoy some serious reading occasionally(ex- the song of ice and fire saga) I basically like Novels with such themes as I mentioned above.
I mostly like the leading protagonist to be male- no offence intended but it is that way simply because I can connect easily with a male character.
Anyways the Novels I’ve read are-
Harry Potter Series(Obviously)
Lord of the Rings Trilogy(Obviously)
All the Shannara Series(Average at most)
Riftwar Saga(Excellent)
The Wheel of time(Absolute torture)
Dune(Couldn’t connect with the protagonist)
Codex Alera (Someone from yahoo answers suggested this series to me. One helluva Series. Fantastic, even the final novel was fantastic)
The Belgaraid and The Mallorean(Loved it)
Inheritance Cycle (Absolutely loved Eragon and the Eldest, but simply hated Brisingr-which contained nothing other than one man breaking peoples skull with a hammer and another sleeping in a council hall)
Sword of truth Series(too much sadistic and heavy for my liking)
Memory, Sorrow and thorn Saga(Hated it)
Chronicles of Pyridain(loved all the books except the last one)

Just started the Dark tower Series but couldn’t get past the first chapter So I threw it.

My friend suggested the Dark is rising Series, but I was discouraged after watching the movie so I didn’t read it. Is it good enough or in other words better than the movie suggests it is?
Can you suggest any more novels for me?

"Another Fine Myth" by Robert Asprin. It’s the first book in quite a long series, about a boy who starts out as an unwilling apprentice, and ends up being known across the dimensions as "The Great Skeeve". Very tongue-in-cheek humor; it WILL make you laugh!

Also try "Joust" by Mercedes Lackey. It’s the first of a four-book series about a slave boy who ends up being a dragon rider. He steals a dragon egg, raises the dragon in an unconventional way, and as a result ends up with a much closer bond to her than any other dragonrider has. He’s eventually put in charge of training his entire country’s fighters. (Lots of Egyptian tones to this book. Kind of an interesting look at ‘what if ancient Egypt had dragons?’)

Have you heard of "Eon: Dragoneye Reborn" by Alison Goodman? It’s a fairly new book, about a girl who dresses like a boy to be chosen as a dragon rider, and lo and behold, gets chosen by the Mirror Dragon, who hasn’t been seen in centuries. (Chinese-oriented background. There are lots of zodiac references and such.) It’s fairly decent, although it’s definitely got that "I NEED a sequel in order to be a really outstanding book!" quality, and I’m waiting to read the next installment, which should be out any day now…

Good luck! I hope you get lots of good answers!

I really liked the Dragon Blood series by Jane Yolen. It’s kind of a young adult series but it’s still really good and it is definitely a coming of age book about a boy.
